What are the most pressing communication justice issues?
Hateful rhetoric also known as hate speech can be extremely insidious to the progress of our society. Slanderous material against any protected class can be counterproductive to acceptance of our diversified culture as a whole. Examples of this can be found in religious newsletters, web sites and in magazines. Not limited to but just a few examples of different mediums. Generalizations are stereotypes are confirmed and people have less tolerance of these groups. Conglomerated media is another issue that has become extremely relevant in our culture. The limited ideas or issues the network choose to cover can lead to a diluted sense of self. Media literacy becomes an issue of concern with generations exposed to these different issues. McCaster’s makes points on both sides of the first amendment argument, noting most people want a stamp of approval on all speech before it goes out to the public. This is an overall fear of the extreme. We must examine both sides of the issue and understand were both are coming from to effectively make a conclusion on modern day media.
